Buffalo Puzzle

Did you know, if it were not for the buffalo, the Natchez Trace might not exist today?

Thousands of years ago, great herds of buffalo, or bison, roamed all over North America including the partly wooded area that is now the Natchez Trace.

As the herds migrated north to reach salt licks, their hooves trampled plants and undergrowth beneath them and formed a wide path. Throughout the years, as the herds continued to move along the same route, the path became wider and more worn.

The Natchez Trace today roughly follows the same route traveled by those herds of long ago!
